Planned: PennKey and KITE AD Password Synchronization on July 1 & 14, 2020

ISC will be enabling password synchronization between PennKey and KITE Active Directory. This synchronization will reduce the burden of managing multiple passwords for KITE and PennKey users. Enabling this feature will be rolled out on two different days:

Wednesday, July 1

The PennKey registration process will be integrated with KITE. When a user registers their PennKey via the PennKey Registration application, a KITE account will also be created in parallel. The username and password chosen by the user during the PennKey registration will also be set for their KITE account.

Wednesday, July 15

The PennKey Password Change application will be integrated with KITE. When a PennKey password is changed, the KITE password will also be changed to the same value. At this time, the ability to reset a KITE password independently will be disabled.

Additional information:

  • If a user with an existing KITE account does not reset their PennKey password, their KITE account password will remain unchanged.
  • This change will not affect PennO365 at this time, and PennO365 passwords will remain unchanged for now. We plan to implement password synchronization between PennKey and PennO365 accounts in the future. However, no date has been set for this yet.
  • This change will not affect PennKey Kerberos admin accounts (pennname-kadmin/domain.upenn.edu) or KITE kadm accounts (pennname-kadm/kite.upenn.edu). These credentials will remain unchanged.

We do not expect this change to cause any service disruptions or downtime. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Client Care at http://supportcenter.upenn.edu, help@isc.upenn.edu, or 215-898-1000.
