February 14 Update
The false positivity spam issue that is impacting PennO365 users is still ongoing. Microsoft’s Engineering/Product Group is continuing to investigate but a root cause has not been identified yet. Until this issue is resolved, end users should be advised to regularly check their junk folders for email falsely identified as spam.
February 6 Update
Microsoft’s Engineering/Product Group is continuing to investigate the false positive spam issue that is impacting PennO365 users. Until this issue is resolved, end users should be advised to regularly check their junk folders for email falsely identified as spam.
Background
On Thursday, February 1, ISC began receiving reports of emails being delivered to a user’s inbox but then being moved to the user’s Junk folder. This behavior has been observed in Outlook 2016, Outlook 2016 for Mac, OOTW and Outlook 2013. ISC has determined that this issue is being performed by the O365 server and not the end user’s email client. However, ISC has not been able to determine why issue occurs inconsistently and impacts some users but not others.
This issue was escalated to Microsoft on Friday, February 2 following an initial investigation by ISC.
ISC will continue to provide updates while this investigation is ongoing. If you have any questions, please contact ISC Client Care at help@isc.upenn.edu.
Thank you for your ongoing patience while we work with Microsoft to resolve this issue.
