Unplanned: Minor Assignments Service Maintenance on October 3, 2019

This morning, ISC deployed a maintenance release of Penn's Network Names & Numbers service Assignments offering. Version 2.7.3 of the server software corrects the following user-visible bugs ([ID number]).

  • [251] Certain records containing the underscore character ("_") are now correctly propagated to Penn's DNS.
  • [253] A new or renamed TXT record that collides with an existing CNAME will cause the CNAME to be deleted if the user accepts a warning. This is consistent with how other record types are handled upon CNAME collision. Previously the collision was not detected, and the TXT record would not be propagated to Penn's DNS.
  • [255] A new or renamed TXT record that belongs in a domain that Assignments does not manage will be rejected. Previously the TXT record would be accepted but not propagated to any DNS.

The latest version of the Assignments desktop client remains unchanged at 2.4.0.
