Clone of Penn IT Academy

Thank you for your interest in the Penn IT Academy Pilot.

The Penn IT Academy is designed to promote individual career development for all Penn IT staff by offering a consistent and comprehensive set of training programs across a variety of disciplines.

Core Competency Trainings

Each of these Core Competency Trainings have been designed to be self-paced. During the pilot we are seeking feedback on two trainings, though more will be added over time.

Business Acumen

According to the Financial Times, "Business acumen is keenness and quickness in understanding and deciding on a business situation. In practice, people with business acumen are thought of as having business sense or business smarts. They are able to obtain essential information about a situation, focus on the key objectives, recognize the relevant options available for a solution, select an appropriate course of action and set in motion an implementation plan to get the job done."

This curriculum is designed so that you can complete it on your own - on line or in a classroom setting.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To understand Penn’s business model, practices, mission and goals.
  2. To understand the qualities and characteristics of an IT professional as an influential business partner.
  3. To understand the potential impact that your role and performance can have on the success of your department.

Communications

Communication is a fundamental building block of your relationship with colleagues and customers. Even if you spend your time behind the scenes, being able to express your ideas to co-workers is critically important.
