Timothy Allen of Wharton Research Data Services will present on using VSCode for development. VSCode is Microsoft’s lightweight IDE, which has been gaining popularity for several years now. Recent enhancements allow using it to develop with the new version of the Windows Subsystem for Linux (“WSL-2”), as well as on servers, and locally. WSL-2 includes major speed improvements and advantages of local development or a system like Vagrant, and includes a full Linux kernel. Tim will demonstrate how it can be used to develop over SSH on a server, locally, and in WSL-2, and discuss what finally convinced him to make the switch from Sublime Text 3.
