Free one-day AWS Technical Essentials class

Amazon Web Services and Wharton Computing are sponsoring a FREE one-day AWS Technical Essentials class on March 5th, 2018. The class is open to anyone in the Penn IT community.
 
The class runs from 9:00 a.m. until 5 p.m. It introduces you to AWS products, services, and common solutions. It provides you with fundamentals to become more proficient in identifying AWS services. After this class you will be able to make informed decisions about IT solutions based on your business requirements and get started working on AWS.
 
Course Objectives
·    Recognize terminology and concepts as they relate to the AWS platform
·    Navigate the AWS Management Console
·    Understand the security measures AWS provides
·    Differentiate AWS Storage options and create an Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) bucket
·    Recognize AWS Compute and Networking options and use Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Amazon Elastic Block Storage (EBS)
·    Describe Managed Services and Database options
·    Use Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) to launch an application
·    Identify Deployment and Management options

Intended Audience

This course is intended for Business professionals:
·    Individuals responsible for articulating the technical benefits of AWS services
·    Any individual who is new to AWS
·    SysOps Administrators and Developers

The AWS class can accommodate up to 200 participants and offers the option to attend remotely or in person. There are 70 seats available in Jon H. Huntsman Hall, Room 240 for those who want to attend in person. Due to this limitation, after you register with Amazon you will need to confirm your attendance preference.

This is a free class courtesy of Amazon Web Services so lunch will not be provided.

For staff WITH an AWS Training Account:
 
1.    Go to the AWS Training and Certification Portal. Use this link: Onsite for Trustees of the University of PA: Technical Essentials Day: Mar 5
2.    Click “Sign In”.
3.    You will see confirmation in the ‘My Transcript’ page that shows you have successfully registered for the course.
4.    Check your email for a registration confirmation email.
5.    Provide additional information regarding class attendance in this link: Attendance Preference

For staff WITHOUT an AWS Training Account:

Register to the New AWS Training and Certification Portal: AWS Training & Certification Portal
“Each student is required to register on our learning management system ahead of attending the training. This system creates a record of each student’s AWS Training, permits them to provide feedback on the training and access to print off their certificate of attendance.”

1.    Create a new account or sign in using an existing Amazon account. This includes credentials for your Amazon retail account, AWS account, or any account that uses the “Login and Pay with Amazon” widget (such as Woot or Zappos).
2.    Complete your account profile if you are signing in for the first time.

3.    After your account has been created, use this link: Onsite for Trustees of the University of PA: Technical Essentials Day: Mar 5
4.    Click “Sign In”, if needed.
5.    You will see confirmation in the ‘My Transcript’ page that shows you have successfully registered for the course.
