Dreamweaver

Supported Product

Adobe Dreamweaver is the HTML/web authoring software application recommended for ISC's clients, including off-campus students. Dreamweaver is a solution for professional web site design and production. You can develop web sites, automate web site production, and enhance web team efficiency. Dreamweaver can be customized using HTML, JavaScript, and XML, for rapid Web development.

Please note that basic HTML skills are still essential for those who create or maintain web pages, and that some may want to configure Dreamweaver to call on a preferred text editor (such as BBEdit) for editing HTML code.

Product history at the University

Various versions of Dreamweaver have been supported at the University since the early 2000s.

Dreamweaver 8.0.x and CS3 were on the supported products list for Fiscal 2009.

Dreamweaver CS3 and CS4 were on the supported products list for Fiscal 2010. This transition to a CS3 and above environment was made because 8.0.x was only partially compatible with Windows Vista and Mac OS 10.5 and above. Dreamweaver CS4 and CS5 were on the supported products list for Fiscal 2011 (this transition to a CS4 and above environment was made because CS3 is only partially compatible with Windows 7 and Mac OS 10.6). Dreamweaver CS5.x and CS6 were on the supported products list for Fiscal 2013. Dreamweaver CS5.5 and CS6 were on the supported products list for Fiscal 2014.

Beginning in 2013, Adobe moved away from a perpetual licensing model with their Creative Cloud (CC) suite. Dreamwweaver Creative Cloud is only available by subscription from Adobe. Dreamweaver CS6 and CC are on the supported products list for Fiscal 2015.

Note: Updated file transfer instructions for sites migrated off the origin.www.upenn.edu web server

If your website has been migrated from origin.www.upenn.edu to a new web server, either radix.www.upenn.edu or another ISC provided VM, follow the instructions below to update your FTP software by replacing all instances of the server name origin.www.upenn.edu with radix.www.upenn.edu or the name of the provisioned VM. For example, the instruction, “In the Server Address: field, type origin.www.upenn.edu” will now read as “In the Server Address: field, type radix.www.upenn.edu.” The location of the files will also change from /usr/local/ftp/html/<sitename> or /usr/local/ftp/[virtualhostname]/html/<sitename> to /<sitename>. That is, /usr/local/ftp/html/ or /usr/local/ftp/[virtualhostname]/html/ is no longer needed before the sitename.

If you do not know the name of the provisioned VM, please contact ISC Client Care or if you have any questions about the instructions for posting files to the radix server, please talk with your LSP or contact ISC Client Care.
