How to mailbox disable a PennO365 account

Follow the steps below to mailbox disable a PennKey account. Please note: these instructions are for PennKey accounts only. The Cloud Control application cannot create, enable, or disable non-PennKey accounts.

 
  1. From the Manage account page within the Cloud Control application, search for the mailbox you wish to disable.
     
  1. From the Operation drop-down menu on the right, choose Mailbox disable. Warning: DO NOT use Delete account!
     
  1. In the confirmation pop-up window, click OK.
     

The mailbox disable job will run, and the mailbox should become disabled in about 15 minutes.

IMPORTANT: Please only use the Mailbox disable. DO NOT use the Delete account option, as this will have undesired effects if selected.

 

Notes:

  • Data associated with the disabled account will continue to be available for 30 days in case data has to be recovered.
  • DO NOT use the Delete account option. The Delete account function will delete the entire PennO365 account which could cause additional problems. Always use Mailbox disable to retire an account's mailbox. If you have a special situation where it is necessary to delete a mailbox rather than disable it, please contact help@isc.upenn.edu for additional help.
