Atlassian Access Introduction and Impact of Vendor Changes

Atlassian has recently moved access management of its various services managed under Atlassian Access, it’s own access management portal. In their own words, “Access allows companies to establish control of and apply security policies to all accounts using their domain for Atlassian cloud products, including Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, Confluence, Bitbucket, Trello.“

ISC has previously established itself as the owner of the upenn.edu domain, with Atlassian, and as such will be the owner of Atlassian accounts that are due to become managed on June 1, 2020. Users of Atlassian offerings who become managed will sign into each of these services with an Atlassian account, which has been configured with SSO via PennKey.

These changes will impact Trello users, in particular, many of whom have set up personal accounts using their @upenn.edu email address. We hope to clarify what this means to Trello users, below.

What Trello users can expect:

  • Trello accounts with an @upenn.edu email address will become “managed accounts” on June 1.
  • Trello accounts with a @subdomain.upenn.edu address will not become managed accounts.
  • Users who wish to avoid being managed can do so by changing their Trello account’s email address by June 1.
  • If a user does not meet this deadline and wishes to become unmanaged after June 1, a request will need to be put in with ISC to have admins change their email address and remove them from ISC’s managed domain.
  • Managed accounts will use their PennKey to access Trello.
  • Nothing else will change. Functionality, cost, etc., will remain the same, and ISC will not have access to users’ Trello data.
    • ISC has no intention of deleting or altering accounts, once they become managed unless requested.
