Windows 10 1903 available but not yet recommended for update

Microsoft's latest major update to Windows 10, version 1903, otherwise known as the May 2019 update, has started to become available to select Windows 10 systems. Microsoft is deploying version 1903 at a much slower rate than previous significant updates, and they are still determining the update schedule for each computer system.

ISC strongly recommends that all University users adopt a "wait and see" approach and continue to use earlier versions of Windows 10 for at least two weeks. This approach will allow for additional time to identify bugs and incompatibilities not initially discovered on-campus. This strategy is especially important because both of the previous two major Windows 10 releases, 1809 and 1803, had significant bugs on-release that caused Microsoft to delay or recall the updates.

It is worth noting that there have been significant reports of "green screen of death" errors in the beta versions of 1903. While this problem typically applies to systems with gaming anti-cheat software install, it could potentially apply to other software as well.

ISC will continue to monitor and test version 1903 and will report back when we are reasonably confident that most major compatibility issues have been addressed.
