With the implementation of Workday in July 2019, the legacy job/role, distribution, payment and encumbrance details available in the Salary Management data collection (RSALMGT universe) are no longer be updated. Please keep the following items in mind when determining whether you need to update a BusinessObjects RSALMGT report to use data from Workday in the Human Capital Management (HCM) universe:
- Public Folders reports will be updated by ISC to use elements in the HCM collection corresponding to those formerly used from the RSALMGT universe
- Review reports to determine whether you need them:
- User Favorites and School/Center reports will not be updated by ISC
- If you have copies of public folder reports in your Favorites or shared departmental folder, please use the updated public folder report instead. You may want to create a shortcut to that report for ease of navigation.
- Consider whether Workday reporting can meet your needs
- Review the HCM data collection information for details about what data will be available in the Data Warehouse from Workday
- Basic Employee/Employee General data will continue to be populated from Workday where possible
- Most affected are those using payment, encumbrance, or distribution detail
- To report on history (including payment detail) before July 2019, continue to use existing RSALMGT reports
If you do wish to switch a report in your Favorites to use the Human Capital Management (HCM) universe, you can follow the guidelines below. Links are provided to FAQs that illustrate some of the steps. If your report has multiple queries and/or report result tabs using the RSALMGT universe that you wish to update, you may do some of the steps multiple times. Before you get started, think about whether you want to completely redirect the report to the new universe (step 5 below only), or whether you wish to keep the RSALMGT query intact and then add an updated one from the HCM universe in the same report, as in the more detailed steps below.
- If you wish to retain the existing report file, you may wish to create a copy, saving the copy with a new name to distinguish the old and new versions.
- Open the report in Webi Design mode, and then click the icon to edit the data provider(s).*
- Duplicate the data provider. You may wish to rename the new data provider tab to reference the HCM universe. (FAQ reference)
- Close the data provider window; be sure to Apply Changes and Close.
- Follow these steps to redirect the new data provider you just created to the HCM universe:
- See the FAQ for changing data providers
- NOTE: At the step to select your strategy for mapping objects between the source and target universes, select the following strategy order (you may need to change the default list):
- Same name
- Same technical name
- Closest name
- Same ID
- Same path
- Review any query filters to determine if specific criteria or prompt text should be updated.
- Run the query.
- Once you have the results, you might want to follow these additional steps:
- Variables: If you have report variables from the original RSALMGT report that you’d like to copy to use with the HCM universe:
- Duplicate the variable (FAQ reference)
- Edit the variable, and copy the text to Notepad, TextPad, Word, or similar, and use the Find/Replace feature to replace the RSALMGT object references with HCM universe object names. For example, if the variable referenced [Posted COA Fund (EP)], replace that reference with [Posted COA Fund (Pymt)]
- Report tab layout: Many RSALMGT reports use a default BusinessObjects template that offset tables from the margin, causing extra rows and columns when the results are exported to Excel. You can address this by aligning tables and cells to the margin. (FAQ reference)
- Variables: If you have report variables from the original RSALMGT report that you’d like to copy to use with the HCM universe:
*Note: You may, if you like, choose to map the original RSALMGT query objects directly to the HCM universe without copying the data provider, reports tabs, etc., as detailed above. This approach will also have the advantage of automatially updating any variables. It does mean, though, that you need to carefully select the HCM objects at the time of switching the data provider.
If you need to report over time, for example, to aggregate employee payment details in the timespan before and after Workday, you'll likely need to do a UNION query, combining results from Employee Payment and HCM Worker Payment in one data provider, using the "Add a Combined Query" button in the Query Panel toolbar.
