Penn 2019 National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

In observance of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) this October, the ISC Office of Information Security (OIS) offers five training and awareness events for faculty, staff, and students.

Penn Employee Resource Fair: On October 1st, 2019 at 12:00 pm ISC Office of Information Security is participating in Penn 2019 Employee Resource Fair to raise awareness on Phishing and Data Protection.

Location: Bodek Lounge in Houston Hall

Free & Legal (Joker Movie Screening): This movie night for students is being hosted by OIS on October 4, 10:00 pm at Cinemark Theater on Walnut. The free screening of “Joker” will be preceded by a brief discussion on DMCA, Penn’s copyright policy and data protection. This movie-night is open to all Penn students, however, due to limited theater seating pre-event registration is required.

To register for this event, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/free-legal-joker-movie-screening-tickets-73162584259

Kicking off Simulated Phishing Training in October 2019: Through Proofpoint Security Awareness Training Solution, OIS offers schools and centers the ability to assess their constituents understanding of email phishing by conducting simulated phishing campaigns. Interested schools and centers should set up a consultation with OIS training officer by emailing Wiam Younes @younes@upenn.edu.

Security Logging Question & Answer session: Join Sam Jenkins, an OIS Sr. IT Security Analyst and the OIS team in celebrating one year of Security Logging Q &A on October 10th session at 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm.

Last year in October, OIS launched its first security logging Q&A sessions which benefits a large number of IT, staff, working to securely log the traffic on their schools and center's network boards.

Location TBA

V-STAR

On October 24th at 2:00 pm, Mike Sanker from ISC Office of Information Security (OIS) will present for the second year an overview of the Vendor Security Technical Assessment of Risk (V-STAR) tool while covering:

  • What is VSTAR
  • How and when it should be used
  • The role of OIS and Schools and Centers play in the process
  • Examples of good and bad responses from vendors
  • How responses should be interpreted in the context of the service the vendor will be providing

Please come prepared with questions about the VSTAR tool and how to interpret vendor responses.

Location: Sansom West Bits & Pieces, Room 306.
