SOLIDserver customization update on April 19, 2022

Date: Tuesday, April 19, 2022

Start time: 5:00 am

End time: 7:00 am

Service(s) Affected: SOLIDserver

To correct two defects in Penn's implementation of SOLIDserver, ISC is planning to deploy an update to our customizations on Tuesday, April 19, between 5:00 AM and 7:00 AM. Users of the Network Names & Numbers management console (https://nnn.upenn.edu) may notice a brief disruption during the maintenance window due to the server process restarting.

As a result of this change, address resource records (RRs)---that is, type A or AAAA---that correspond to the primary name of any PennNet IPv4 or IPv6 address in the IPAM module can no longer be modified or deleted in the DNS module. The only exception is that changes to an RR TTL will still be permitted because they can only be performed in the DNS module. Management operations on all other resource records, including A or AAAA that correspond to non-primary ("alias") names of an IP address, will remain unaffected.

A new parameter, "Managed by IPAM," will be visible in the RR listing view of the DNS module. The value "1" indicates that deletion, or modification other than to the TTL attribute, will be rejected. Any other value, including the empty value, indicates management of the RR is only subject to the usual authorization checks.

Following deployment of the update, a migration script to populate the "Managed by IPAM" flag on all existing RRs is expected to continue to run well beyond the end of the maintenance window. SOLIDserver will remain available and fully functional during that time.
