ISC is aware that there are concerns in the University community about PennBox, and we want to communicate where we currently are with the service.
ISC worked extensively with Purchasing to negotiate a multi-year agreement with Box. However, Box appears to be changing its business model in the higher education space, which has raised questions and uncertainty around storage and pricing. This situation is not specific to Penn, and we are hearing similar reports from peer schools and institutions. ISC and Purchasing recently signed a one year contract with Box that is up for renewal in July 2020, and we plan to renew at that point.
We will continue discussions with Box, and in the meantime, ISC will work closely with schools and centers to analyze our current usage, needs, and possible alternatives. We understand that Box has been critical for data storage at Penn, and ISC will keep the campus community informed as we learn more.
