July 2020 Update to the Four-Year Technology Roadmap

July 2020 update (revision 73) to the four-year University-wide technology roadmap is available to University constituents as a PDF document on Penn+Box at:

https://upenn.box.com/v/techroadmaps

The primary goal of this technology roadmap is to help Penn’s technology professionals make contextual decisions within the overall University technology environment. It is for internal use—please do not forward it to non-Penn individuals.

This nineteenth update to the roadmap initially released almost five years ago has 52 of the 177 existing technologies listed modified in some way. Five new technologies have been added—DDI (DNS/DHCP/IPAM), macOS 11.0.x, Safari 14, Windows 10 version 2004, and Zoom, while six have been removed—Cosign, SecureSpace, on-premises web hosting (origin), video conferencing (as a generic item), Windows Server 2008, and Windows 10 Creators Update.

An orange box to the right of the technology name delineates all modified technologies, and changelogs describe them on the final pages of the roadmap. Note that the roadmap for many technologies has been affected in some way by the University’s responses to COVID-19.

This roadmap represents the best current estimates of the status of these technologies. It will often revise over time and is wholly re-evaluated every quarter. My thanks to individuals across the University—about 25—who assisted in compiling this twentieth (!) release of the roadmap.
