Upcoming Changes to BlueJeans

Over the past few months, ISC’s BlueJeans Transition Team has worked with campus partners and IT leaders across campus to work toward transitioning the University off BlueJeans Meetings. With the emergence of Zoom and Teams and the decline in BlueJeans use, the PTIC board has decided to no longer fund BlueJeans Meetings as a common good service. As such, the BlueJeans Meetings service will no longer be available to the majority of users after June 30, 2022.

In preparation, the BlueJeans Transition team has created communications templates and guides for downloading recordings, for IT teams to share with their users. These documents can be downloaded here: https://upenn.box.com/s/y6yvvk0j12u4rlwh1a4myvhukiigv5yd

Funding

  • BlueJeans Events will be centrally funded for currently active users through Fiscal Year 2023 (ending June 30, 2023).
    • This will cover the roughly 600 identified users who have hosted an Event between February of 2021 and February of 2022.
  • Schools or Centers that wish to continue using BlueJeans Meetings will purchase directly from BlueJeans.  We are working with BlueJeans to understand the transition process. The University MSA and all associated protections will be extended to all campus accounts.
  • If anyone has a need for specialty telehealth licensing (additional features and options) please contact Client Care to discuss options.

Logistics

  • Auto-Provisioning - In preparation for the service being turned off for the majority of users, we will be turning account auto-provisioning off on May 15. This is being done to prevent new users from joining who will lose access on July 1.
  • Recordings - We have investigated several options to support the transfer of recording, including APIs, professional services, and central administration.  Unfortunately, admin access is severely limited and does not allow for the direct transfer of recordings and BlueJeans does not offer any professional services to aid in this.
  • Since our ongoing BlueJeans footprint will not be centrally managed, PennKey SSO will only be available for BlueJeans Events. Individually set up accounts will not be able to set up SSO.
